But Spurs were stuck in first gear all afternoon, and it was only when Mauricio Pochettino started to make changes, in the final 20 minutes, that his team played with any threat.

Southampton have won just one game since the end of November, and that one was against Championship side Fulham in the FA Cup. He instead played Heung-Min Son the furthest forward, giving the attack no focal point.

The match will be held at St. Mary's Stadium.

Both sides had chances to nick a late victor but Spurs were the more frustrated at the final whistle, with fourth-placed Liverpool now able to pull five points clear with a win over Swansea on Monday. Southampton came closer to the win at the end but it was Pochettino throwing his arms to the air in exasperation at the final whistle.

Tottenham are expected to resist any attempt from Real Madrid, but if their star striker were to leave, they would expect a fee in excess of the £198m Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar last summer. Victor Wanyama has only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines, and Harry Winks, after showing so much promise earlier in the season, has been out of favour of late.

A horrid run of results has dragged Southampton into the bottom three but they came out fighting with a point to prove to their former boss.

The individuals spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to describe the meeting publicly. "No, No. However, he said, Trump was aware of the public discussion of his mental state and asked Jackson to give him one anyway.

But the best late chances fell to Spurs, who recorded only two shots on target in the match, with a brilliant block from Stephens denying substitute Erik Lamela the victor, while Kane missed the chance to score his 100th goal by firing wide in the last minute.

Harry Kane has also been feeling under the weather but was deemed fit enough to start.

At 17 years and 199 days Michael Obafemi became Southampton's second youngest Premier League debutant, following Luke Shaw, when he was introduced with only eight minutes remaining. Despite a number of quality crosses however, Gabbiadini often looked isolated up top, and this looks like a side crying out for a reliable and experience goal scorer.

The south coast team lie 18th in the table, two points behind Newcastle, Brighton and Stoke, having played a match less.

While Harry Kane is continuing to bang in the goals, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have suffered a noticeable loss of form. With Chelsea and Arsenal both winning this weekend, three points for Spurs seemed like a necessity, and their quest for a top four spot is becoming increasingly challenging.
