Elton John announced in a much-hyped press conference that he is retiring from touring, soonish.

The Queens's unhappy daughter-in-law, Lady Diana, was one of Elton John's best friends. "I've always had great people making me great clothes throughout my career and about 2 years ago I discovered Alessandro Michele, who became the head designer of Gucci", said John. He has suffered several medical setbacks of late, including a bacterial infection previous year that he contracted during a South American tour and an E. coli bacterial infection in 2009. "This is in 1970 at the Troubadour that it all started", Elton says of the famous Los Angeles night club.

"I definitely want to make a couple more albums, but that will be easy, because I can do that at home".

American Express Card Members can purchase tickets in advance in North America beginning Thursday January 25 at 10 a.m., CST, through Monday January 29 at 10 p.m., CST. "I plan to bring the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades to my final tour".

To do it properly, Elton will embark on a three-year, 300-date tour all around the world.

Prices haven't been announced for the Birmingham date, but tickets for John's concerts in North America will go on sale February 2 at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.

Elton John will spend three years on the road saying goodbye to his fans with a 300-dates tour he's dubbed "Farewell Yellow Brick Road".
