UPDATE: Crowdfunding campaign launched to repair, protect Dyersville movie site

Al Steffen, the field manager for the site in Dyersville, told Fox News on Wednesday that the damage was discovered by workers reporting for duty early on Tuesday morning.

According to the Telegraph Herald, a vehicle made 4-inch deep tracks in the outfield and damaged a sprinkler system.

The 1989 movie "Field of Dreams" starred Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan and James Earl Jones.

The owners have set up a Go Fund Me page. Listening to said voice, he builds a baseball diamond in the middle of a field, which summons ghosts of great ball players past.

"Someone who is disturbed had some agenda to damage the field", Stillman said. It was nominated for three Oscars and turned phrases like "If you build it, he will come" and "Ease his pain" into pop culture milestones.

The Iowa site where "Field of Dreams" was shot was wrecked by vandals yesterday. And then, almost 30 years later, they'll come and tear it up.

Stillman said repairs will continue through the summer but that the field will remain open.

'We pray for whomever did this to our special place that they find peace in their hearts. "We'll just have to keep operating as is".

"[Owner Denise] Stillman said a damage assessment still is underway, but she anticipates repairs will cost thousands of dollars".

Field officials said they weren't able to identify the vehicle and that they have no security cameras.
