Dutch team infiltrated Russian hacker group, witnessing US election meddling, DNC attack: report

"There is nothing to say", Peskov said, when asked whether Moscow was aware that Dutch intelligence services had been tracking activities of a hacking group from Russian Federation for two years and provided their USA counterparts with information about the group's alleged involvement in the 2016 presidential election.

"Not only can the intelligence service now see what the Russians are doing, they can also see who's doing it. Pictures are taken of every visitor", the report said. The Washington Post reported the NSA was contacted by an "unnamed Western intelligence agency".

The reports, which were released on Thursday by Dutch news outlets Nieuwsuur and de Volkskrant, claim that Dutch intelligence not only collected concrete evidence of Russian hack attacks, but shared their findings with the FBI, NSA, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Volkskrant said American spies were so grateful they sent the Dutch cake and flowers.

The technical evidence that the AIVD and the Netherlands's MIVD, or Military Intelligence and Security Service, passed to the FBI is described as "crucial" in providing the grounds for the bureau's probe into Russia's election meddling, though it is unclear what it entailed.

Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq surge to records on strong earnings
In the energy market, oil prices settled higher, with crude also posting a weekly gain as the weaker dollar underpinned prices. Railroad stocks saw substantial weakness throughout the session, resulting in a 3.3% slump by the Dow Jones Railroads Index.

Last November, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing anonymous sources, that the Justice Department had identified "more than six members of the Russian government" involved in the DNC hack but that discussions about the case were "in the early stages".

"If Dutch newspapers want to throw oil on the fire of the anti-Russian hysteria in the United States, that's not the most dignified of activities", Peskov told reporters.

Even though the assault was thwarted after a 24-hour cyber battle, one Trojan email did get through, enabling the Russian group to access the White House. "The ally had managed to hack not only the Russians' computers, but also the surveillance cameras inside their workspace, according to the former officials", the Post noted.

It has led to the Dutch intelligence agencies becoming more hesitant at sharing information with USA, particularly with Trump in the White House, the Volkskrant stated. It led to high level meetings between the country's top spy chiefs at the time, while the Americans also handed over knowledge, technology and intelligence.

In 2014, the Dutch intelligence agency AIVD infiltrated the computer network of a university building near Moscow's Red Square, which turned out to be the headquarters of the notorious Cozy Bear hacking group.
