Israeli forces kill Palestinian suspected of murdering settler

A PALESTINIAN stabbed a security guard at the entrance to an Israeli settlement and was shot dead today in the latest episode of violence in the occupied West Bank, Israel's military said.

Zaamara, 19, was shot by another security guard and killed, the army said.

The wounded man was evacuated to the Hadassah University Hospital in Ein Karem.

Zaamara's family home in Halhul was raided by Israeli forces in the aftermath of the attack.

Following Hamza's death, dozens of Palestinian protested in Halhoul, before the soldiers attacked them, and fired dozens of live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets and gas bombs. One Palestinian was killed and 47 others were injured in ensuing clashes with IDF soldiers as they left the area, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Israeli soldiers killed, on Tuesday at night, a young Palestinian man, and injured 110, including 32 who were shot with live ammunition, in Nablus city, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

The overnight raid occurred in the village of Yamoun near Jenin, where the 22-year-old suspect, Ahmad Jarrar, was said to be hiding.

Israel had accused Jarrar, who had gone into hiding for several weeks, of killing an Israeli settler in early January.

"When Jarrar finally came out of one building, he was armed with an M-16 assault rifle and a bag full of explosives, prompting the Israeli forces to open fire and kill him", Ynet said.

At least 22 Palestinians and two Israelis have died since the December 6 announcement. Two Israelis have died in that timeframe.

Israeli settlements are seen as illegal under global law and a major obstacle to peace as they are built on land the Palestinians see as part of their future state.
