Southwest Airlines 906, a Boeing 737, slid sideways on Taxiway PAPA while preparing for departure at Baltimore-Washington International Airport today at 10 a.m.

The aircraft remained on the pavement, according to officials with the airport and the Federal Aviation Administration. "We were exactly at the point where the plane expected to turn 180 degrees to the runway when unexpectedly the throttle went down, we missed the turn, we heard the brakes going ahead and we slid into the grass", Edmonds revealed to ABC News in a phone meet. A passenger on the plane also claimed that the pilot attributed the incident to an "icy spot" on the taxiway, though she wasn't convinced that was accurate.

No injuries are reported at this time.

Officials from BWI said they're still unsure why the malfunction occurred as 75 flights managed to safely depart from the same runway before Southwest flight #906 attempted to do the same, WMAR-TV reported.

'The pavement surface condition was tested immediately following the incident, ' Dean said in an email.

Hours before the incident, the FAA had warned that winter weather could delay flights in Baltimore as well as Boston, Chicago, Detroit and Philadelphia airports in addition to those in the NY and Washington areas.

According to ABC News meteorologists, the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport experienced freezing rain Wednesday morning. Temperatures have been drifting close - or on occasion beneath - solidifying a great part of the morning.
