President Trump tweets about undocumented immigrant who killed NFL player

The illegal immigrant suspected of killing an Indianapolis Colts player and another man in a drunken roadside crash over the weekend has been charged with a felony immigration violation, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday charged Orrego-Zavala with illegal re-entry into the USA, a crime for which he could face 10 years in prison.

ESPN could only say this in their headline: "Colts' Edwin Jackson killed by driver illegally in U.S".

The driver, Jeffrey Monroe, and passenger, Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, were standing outside their vehicle when Orrego-Zavalas' truck hit them.

Orrego-Savala's blood alcohol level was 0.239 percent-nearly three times the legal limit in Indiana-reports the Indianapolis Star, citing a preliminary probable cause affidavit filed in Marion County Superior Court.

Manuel Orrego-Savala, who was in the country illegally, was the drunken driver responsible for the death of Edwin Jackson.

Before the crash on Sunday morning, Monroe had pulled his 2018 Lincoln to the side of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis because Jackson had become ill, according to state police.

During his initial court hearing, Orrego-Savala responded through an interpreter as the judge explained the proceedings and charges.

Orrego-Savala faces up to 10 years in prison on the immigration charge, which the USA attorney's office said would be handled after any state charges are resolved. CNN called the man an undocumented immigrant.

Orrego-Savala remains jailed in Indianapolis.

Investigators say the suspect, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala, has twice been deported from the USA and was illegally living in the country at the time of Sunday's crash in Indianapolis. Jeffrey Monroe, 54, of Avon, Indiana, was the ride-share driver who also was killed in the crash around 4 a.m. Sunday.

"This was a completely preventable tragedy", he told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

If convicted of the new federal charges, Orrego-Savala faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, according to Minkler's office. "State police investigators are working with U.S. Federal Immigration Officials and they have placed a hold on Orrego-Savala".

At the time of his most recent arrest, in Indianapolis on Sunday, Orrego-Zavala provided a false name to authorities - Alex G. Cabrera - though authorities soon uncovered his real name.

Trump drew added attention to the case on Twitter, calling the highway collision "disgraceful", and prodded Democrats to work with him on illegal immigration and border security. "We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both men during this hard time". He also has numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests in California and in, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico. They say Jackson and Monroe were struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by Orrego-Savala.
