Nearly 1500 Flights Cancelled As Storm Pummels US Midwest

Winter storm warning Feb 06 2018

By dawn Friday, heavy snow is expected to be falling in metro Detroit, with a couple inches on the ground during the morning rush hour.

Friday night there is a 40 percent chance of snow. Despite being the shortest, February is typically the snowiest month of the year for the region, with a total accumulation of 5.7 inches expected for the District.

Chicago is expect accumulation of 8 to 14 inches by Friday night.

On Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for portions of northern IL and northwest IN that remains IN effect until 6 p.m. Friday.

DeKalb County is bracing for another dumping of the snow on the area.

Family of Edwin Jackson releases statement, arrangements set
At the time of his most recent arrest , in Indianapolis on Sunday, Orrego-Zavala provided a false name to authorities - Alex G. Manuel Orrego-Savala, who was in the country illegally, was the drunken driver responsible for the death of Edwin Jackson .

More than 1,500 U.S. flights have been canceled Friday as a winter storm slammed the Midwest with at least 1 inch of snow per hour.

Ahead of what the National Weather Society is calling "a potent winter storm with abundant moisture" that will spread "a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to a large portion of the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast US today", local groups and organizations are changing their plans. "Total snowfall amounts from this evening and tomorrow combined range from near eight inches along the state line to around two inches toward central Wisconsin", the press release reads. "We really want the NAO to be negative to get more storms moving into our area", Draper said. Wind chill values may drop down to -5° at times early Thursday morning. It's nearly certain to mess with the Friday morning commute and will probably play havoc with air travelers as one of the busiest airline hubs is forced to shovel out. The amounts of snow are not expected to break any records, but ice raining from the sky is always risky all around, even if you're just trying to drive down the street.

Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester could see from 3 to 6 inches, according to AccuWeather.com, and enough snow will fall around Albany, Burlington and Montreal to create hazardous driving conditions. We're looking at highs in the upper 20s, but we're also going to keep a close eye on temperatures, especially in Monroe County and Downriver, where it's possible we could see a brief mix of precipitation.

Staff with the roads department is working regular shifts until the snow begins to fall, in that case all available employees will be called to work throughout the storm to plow the roads.
