Rahimi, 30, said nothing about the victims of the September 2016 blast in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood that injured 30 people - which prosecutors noted in asking for the maximum sentence.

Rahimi was found guilty last October of successfully detonating one of two bombs he planted in Chelsea in a Saturday night attack in 2016 that injured 30 people and sent ripples of fear through the city.

A year earlier, in September 2016, Rahimi transported two improvised pressure-cooker bombs - similar to those used in the Boston marathon bombing in April 2013 - from New Jersey to NY, placing both in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, authorities said. He said consecutive life sentences would not "show the world justice".

In court, Rahimi echoed his father's remarks, seeming to blame the Federal Bureau of Investigation for not stopping him sooner.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Crowley argued that everything Rahimi has done since 2016 "has been fueled by hate", and "he has shown no remorse".

Two days after the bombs went off, police ended a manhunt for Rahimi with a shootout in Linden, New Jersey.

Marcelo Fuels Talk of Neymar to Real Madrid Ahead of Champions League
Real warmed up for the game at the Bernabeu with a 5-2 win against Real Sociedad, Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick. It's still early days in the competition yet tonight's game is critical for PSG as they would want to lay down a marker.

"The nature of the crime was heinous, wanton and life-threatening.it's inexplicable that anyone would do that intentionally", U.S. District Judge Richard Berman said, according to CNN.

Prosecutors said Rahimi even tried radicalizing fellow inmates inside Manhattan's notorious Metropolitan Correctional Center by "distributing propaganda and publications issued by terrorist organizations".

Rahimi's sentencing attorney Xavier Donaldson failed to sway the court with his proposed sentence of 180 months.

Jurors took less than four hours to convict Rahimi on eight counts, including using a weapon of mass destruction and bombing a public place, following a two-week trial.

"(Another inmate) asked me how are we going to watch the news and I told him I don't need to watch the news because I am the news", Rahimi allegedly told a family member in a jailhouse phone call, while he was on trial.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence - including DNA and fingerprints - linking Rahimi to the bombs that were placed in New Jersey and NY. He placed several other explosives nearby in New Jersey, but one failed to detonate and the other was a small pipe bomb that caused no injuries, the Justice Department announced.
