Emily Sweeney Is OK After That Scary Olympic Luge Crash

Emily Sweeney's Olympic debut ended with a frightening crash Tuesday in PyeongChang, South Korea.

American Emily Sweeney crashed in her final run at the 2018 Winter Olympics, knocking her out of the competition. After a few minutes, she was seen sitting under her own power, and was soon walking without assistance, albeit gingerly.

Curve 9 has been a problem for sliders throughout the early portion of the Olympics, causing many to skid, lose control and lose some time. Per the Associated Press, Sweeney was further evaluated at the Olympic Village, where concern was expressed about Sweeney's back, but she wasn't being looked at for a concussion.

While she lay unmoved on the ice for some time as her understandably anxious parents watched on, she was eventually cleared by medical staff and walked away. The stands were filled with fans cheering raucously, and they immediately went silent waiting for some sort of sign that Sweeney would be all right. "I thought it was a great avenue of opportunity", Emily said about joining the military.

His back nine 38 left a little (OK, a lot) to be desired, but he's the favorite at -110 going into Sunday's final round. For Gerry McIlory, who worked three jobs at times as his son aspired to golf greatness, there is not much better.

Later in the final run, Summer Britcher of the United States lost control at the start and collided with some walls - but got down the track without crashing or incurring serious injury. Sweeney is just 24 years old, though, so we can hopefully count on her returning to competition for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

"It's definitely one of the harder curves around the world", Tucker West of the US told NBC Olympics.

When asked if she would return and make another run at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, Sweeney was unsure.
