Vargas, traded by the Mets to Seattle in December 2008, could be in camp with NY by Monday. With Vargas, the Mets now have some added depth.

Per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the New York Mets have agreed to terms with free agent pitcher Jason Vargas.

This is a pretty big coup for a team looking to surprise the masses.

Another member from the Royals championship run is officially leaving Kansas City. After spending four straight seasons with the Royals, Vargas should slide into the five-spot as the only southpaw in the Mets' rotation. If all are healthy, it's not a bad starting unit for a NY squad that has improved leaps and bounds this winter. He did not pitch in the playoffs that year, but went 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA over three postseason starts for Kansas City in 2014.

For Thursday's report , they looked at the cases of 4,562 kids and adults who showed up with flu-like illness at the five sites. Other than washing your hands, and cleaning surfaces, medical experts say it's still not too late to get that flu shot.

The left-hander made two starts for the Mets in 2007, going 0-1 with a 12.19 ERA. Vargas was the winning pitcher in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series as the Royals completed a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 2-1 win.

With the Mets, Vargas would get $250,000 each for 160, 170, 180, 190, 200 and 210 innings pitched. It was his first year back after suffering a torn UCL that cut his 2015 season short and eliminated his entire 2016. In his four seasons with the Royals, Vargas was 34-23 with a 3.88 ERA in 74 starts.

Coming off a 70-92 season that followed consecutive playoff appearances, NY also signed reliever Anthony Swarzak to a $14 million, two-year contract in December. Lynn and Cobb would have commanded longer contracts, but since both pitchers are only 30 years old, the Mets would have received a much better value for players who would be more likely to impact the team beyond the 2019 season than Vargas.
