China outraged over Terracota warrior thumb theft

China has reportedly urged for "severe punishment" to be imposed on the man who is suspected of stealing the thumb of a Chinese terracotta warrior statue. The Franklin Institute's own internal security team provided the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the information necessary to identify the suspect and retrieve the stolen artifact.

"We ask that the USA severely punish the perpetrator", the organization's Wu Haiyun said, according to the BBC.

The warrior statues date back to 209 B.C., when the Qin Dynasty ruled China.

Terracotta Warriors which guarded the tomb of China's First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, on loan from China are displayed in The World Museum, Liverpool, Britain February 6, 2017.

Chinese authorities also demanded compensation for the $5.6 million exhibit, which was on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

According to an arrest affidavit filed Friday, Michael Rohana, a 24-year-old man from state of DE, was attending a party held at the Franklin Institute on December 21 last year when he made his way into the museum's special exhibit "Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor".

Judge Allows Illegal Aliens To Stay And Continue Entering the Country
The biggest difference between then and now is that the Democrats have forfeited their best leverage to force Republicans to deal. Mr Trump announced his intent to roll back DACA, which protects almost 800,000 young people from deportation, in early September.

Rohana, according to the affidavit, put his hand on the left hand of the statue, appeared to break something off from the Calvaryman's left hand and put it in his pocket, and then left. Rohana pocketed the warrior's thumb and took it home with him to DE that evening.

The museum noticed the missing thumb on January 8 - more than two weeks after the alleged incident - and reported it to police.

China is fuming that a man stole a thumb from one of the warriors, similar to the ones seen here in 2005.

. He later admitted that he had kept the thumb in a desk drawer. He is now accused of theft of an artwork from a museum, concealment of the artwork and interstate transportation of stolen property, according to The New York Times. "Those shown in Xi'an are all protected by glass", one Weibo user wrote. "It seems the Americans are guilty of that too".

"We call on the American side to severely punish the person who committed this destruction and theft of mankind's cultural heritage", an unidentified official told the newspaper, adding that two experts would be sent to the U.S.to fix the thumb.

The Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center has organized over 260 overseas exhibitions over the past 40 years, and has never come across a situation such as this, said an official with the center.
