Grigor Dimitrov reached the Rotterdam semi-finals in 2013

The 36-year-old's quarter-final victory over Robin Haase on Friday ensured he will become the oldest man to be world number one and he eased to a 6-2 6-2 victory over Grigor Dimitrov on Sunday to maintain his ideal record this season.

It was Federer's 97th career title which now puts him only behind American icon Jimmy Conors who have 109 career titles to his name.

Federer, the record 20-time Grand Slam victor, will officially reclaim the number one ranking he last held in October 2012 when the new ATP rankings are published on Monday.

The 36-year-old Federer racked up his 14th win from 15 matches with 33-year-old Seppi, the World No. 81 who had enjoyed a memorable week in the Dutch port city by reaching the semifinals as a "lucky loser".

The 20-time Gland Slam champion sealed his 97th career title in just 55-minute final, his third in Rotterdam after winning the trophy in 2005 and 2012.

The Swiss, who won the Australian Open last month for the second year in succession, also improved his head-to-head record against world number five Dimitrov to 7-0.

"Thank you very much for the great, great welcome I got this week".

"I started finding energy midway through the first set, but the start was tough".

'Against Roger in the current situation he is in, you can't play any less than 100 per cent, ' said Dimitrov. Anything can happen, but all credit to Roger. "He's back to No. 1, played well all week and kept raising the bar", Dimitrov said.

It is not the first time Goffin has suffered to a freak injury, with the world number seven hurting his ankle at last year's French Open after tangling with a rolled-up cover at the back of the court.
