Yesterday's incident comes amid an up-tick in cross-border fighting.

A Qatari envoy said Monday that both Israel and Gaza militants want to contain cross-border violence that has flared in recent days, as he detailed a new emergency fund to aid the blockaded territory.

The strikes hit 18 Hamas targets, including what the Israeli military called an "offensive terror tunnel" in Zaytun in southern Gaza, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

China's Xinhua news agency reported that Egypt has made a decision to open the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip for four days, the Palestinian embassy in Cairo said in a statement Tuesday.

Abbas Calls For Mideast Peace Conference In Rare UN Speech
Abbas, Erekat said by way of defense, has "led the peace process and promoted the principle of the two-state solution". Deputy British UN ambassador Jonathan Allen described United States leadership on the issue as "indispensable".

Recently, tensions between the two sides keep flaring up, as shown in the firing of about 20 rockets on the southern part of Israel, which responded with airstrikes since U.S. President Donald Trump announced on December 6 to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The explosion, which occurred earlier on the day, left two of the Israeli soldiers severely injured and marked one of the most serious escalations in the besieged enclave since the 2014 Gaza war. The explosive device was planted below the flag on the Palestinian side of the fence.

Later on Saturday, terrorists launched a rocket at an Israeli border community, causing damage to a house but no injuries.

Al-Emadi responded that only Palestinian Authority (PA) officials, and not Qataris, are authorized to discuss salaries, and that payment for such services falls under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
