According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation, which was launched to clear YPG/PKK-ISIL terrorists from Afrin, aims to establish security and stability along Turkey's borders and the region as well as to protect Syrians from terrorist oppression and cruelty.

Ankara kicked off its military assault on Afrin in order to eliminate the YPG, which it considers to be terrorists because of alleged associations with Kurdish insurgents in Turkey.

The initiative for displaced people around Idlib, in territory Turkish forces entered past year, is separate from an offensive Turkey launched six weeks ago in Afrin, another part of northern Syria held by Kurdish YPG militia.

Manning said air strikes by the US-led coalition fighting Daesh had not been affected, and that the SDF continues to hold territory taken back from the militant group.

To this effect, opposition sources noted on Monday that additional Kurdish units disengaged from their operations in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces to instead fight the Turkish Army and Ankara-based militias in Afrin.
