Because undocumented immigrants with legal counsel are dramatically more successful in avoiding deportation than those without, Soglin called for a renewed effort in the state for better legal protections and services for undocumented immigrants.

As the deadline that Trump administration had set for ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program passed on March 5, Dreamers marched across the us states to call for an extension of the Obama-era policy.

"We want ... to be able to contribute to our communities", said Portland resident Ricardo Lujan-Valerio, a DACA recipient and recent graduate of Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

U.S. Capitol Police break chains locking together supporters of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, who were participating in an act of civil disobedience in support of DACA recipients, Monday, March 5, 2018, on Capitol Hill in Washington.

But in cancelling DACA, Trump gave lawmakers six months - until March 5 - to come up with a legislative solution that would extend the program's protections.

"So why don't they come to an embassy here and apply for, you know what I mean?"

"They're failing to take a stance and create new laws on an issue that every agrees on.nearly the vast majority of the country believes there should be pathways to citizenship", Goldman said.

Blanc, who was once undocumented herself, said she had "a moral obligation" to be at the march.

Maria arrived to the USA when she was 12 years old. Donald Trump vigorously fought all the proposals other his own, which would have made relief for DREAMers conditional upon $25 billion for his border wall and an end to most family immigration.

Donald Trump's Tariffs Plan 'Absolutely Unacceptable': Justin Trudeau
A 20 percent tariff could cost companies an extra $512.5 million and a 30 percent tariff would cost companies $768.8 million. That is followed by Brazil and South Korea , with steel imports from China down 5% in the most recent period.

Dreamers, or people who were brought to the US illegally as children, have joined immigrant rights groups across the country in legally challenging the move to end DACA. "Today's decision also highlights a serious problem with the disturbing growth in the use of nationwide injunctions, which causes the Maryland court's correct judgment in favor of the government to be undermined by the overbroad injunctions that have been entered by courts in other states". The initiative would move immigrants through a stage of conditional residency to permanent status providing they met specific qualifications.

Soglin added he would not hesitate to warn undocumented communities of impending U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, as Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf did on February 24.

On Feb. 26, the U.S. Supreme Court denied the administration's unusual request to intervene, which would have leapfrogged the appeals court.

For many of these immigrant founders, the prospect of returning home to their country of birth is unfeasible, if not altogether risky.

"I lose my protection", she said. "(Lawmakers) are like 'Just push it back, it's just the DACA kids'".

Then of course, there are the Dreamers who never officially signed up for DACA.

As DACA continues to be debated, we want to hear from the people most affected by the issue.

That, paired with another six months of inaction, is what they believe is depressing numbers at protests like the one Monday.
