Nun in legal dispute with Katy Perry collapses and dies in court

An 89-year-old Roman Catholic nun who has battled pop star Katy Perry for years over the sale of a Los Angeles convent collapsed and died during a court appearance, according to media reports and supporters.

Katy Perry had offered to buy it from Archdiocese of Los Angeles for nearly $15million in 2014.

In a statement on Friday, Archbishop Gomez said: "Sister Catherine Rose served the Church with dedication and love for many years, and today we remember her life with gratitude".

A nun entangled in a long legal battle with popstar Katy Perry died in court this week.

In 2016, a judge sided with the archdiocese and Perry and invalidated the sale to Hollister, clearing a path for Perry to buy the convent.

"I was sad to hear the news of her passing and I have offered a Mass for the repose of her soul", Gomez added. "It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people", Holzman had earlier told KTTV as she entered the courthouse with Sister Rita Callanan.

That's why we have an independent counsel". "It was wrong of me to attack Sarah", Nunberg told the Daily Caller . A person who refuses to testify or produce documents can be jailed for up to 18 months for civil contempt.

In December of 2017 another judge sided with Perry, and ordered Hollister to pay Perry and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles almost $10 million in damages.

The case has been put on hold following the nun's death, although they had previously appealed to Pope Francis directly to give them their convent back.

Holzman was among the nuns fighting for the ability to sell their former hilltop convent in Los Feliz to local businesswoman Dana Hollister - a desire in direct opposition to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles' wish to sell the property to superstar Katy Perry.

Another of the nun's concerns is with the singer herself.

She collapsed during a court hearing in Los Angeles Friday, in what has been a protracted effort by the nuns to keep Perry from taking ownership of the property. "It would be a sin to sell to her". Please archbishop. Do what is right in your heart, ' Callahan begged in the televised interview just before her friend's death.
