On Sunday night, a video of Jamie Carragher spitting at a 14-year-old Manchester United fan quickly went viral online.

Carragher subsequently drives away, after which the teenage girl, sitting in the passenger's seat, is heard to say that Carragher's spit had hit her in the face while repeatedly urging her father to stop the recording.

When the driver repeatedly mentioned the score, Carragher, now a Sky Sports pundit, is heard to say, "All right", before appearing to spit at the vehicle alongside his.

Now Carragher has issued a full apology to the girl and her father, as he has confirmed he as been in touch with the duo to express his regret over the incident. The 38-times capped England worldwide said: "I just want to apologise and I hope you are OK".

"I was goaded three or four times along the motorway while being filmed and lost my rag".

She said: "I have never been spat at by anyone before".

Carragher had been at Old Trafford in his role as a Sky Sports pundit and saw his former side go 2-0 down in the first half after two Marcus Rashford goals. "I thought, 'Why has he done that".
