Elizabeth Warren fights back calls to take DNA test over Native American heritage claims

Elizabeth Warren on Sunday ruled out a 2020 presidential run and taking a DNA test to prove Native American ancestry - an issue that has nagged her Senate campaigns and would nearly certainly create problems in a White House bid.

On NBC's "Meet the Press", repeated her intentions saying, "So look: I am not running for President of the United States".

Warren sought to move past questions about her background last month in an address to the National Congress of American Indians.

"It's about my family's story". And I'm going to do that right now, by pointing out that more than half of all native women in this country have been the victims of sexual violence, ' Warren said, pivoting to the issue after restating what she has said previously about her family story.

Warren's response came after Todd read a portion of the editorial, posted on the television screen, that appeared in The Eagle's Tuesday edition. She's making a cynical political play to have Native Americans back her story whether it's true or not. "I understand that tribal membership is determined by tribes - and only by tribes", Warren said, adding that she never used her heritage to advance her career.

Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, said she was glad Trump agreed to exempt Canada and Mexico from the tariffs, but urged policymakers to think beyond a handful of particular industries when it comes to overhauling trade policy.

'98 pc of Meiteis voted for BJP in Tripura polls'
She also said her government would extend support and cooperation for the implementation of all projects involving Bangladesh and Tripura, he said.

Harvard Law School now has only one tenured minority woman, Gottlieb Professor of Law Elizabeth Warren, who is Native American.

Warren further said she believes her family member's claims of Native American ancestry have been sufficient, at least for her, in addressing any questions that could be raised on the issue. She said "no one" could take that away from her.

"Yes, you do", Warren said, laughing.

The speech was a clear attempt to put the controversy around her claims of heritage to rest and potentially another sign of 2020 presidential ambitions. "And never used it for anything".

A directory of law professors listed Warren as a minority from 1986 to 1995, just before she joined Harvard Law School. "But what I did a couple of weeks ago is I went to talk to the leaders of the native tribes across the country".
