Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, another top Republican on the intelligence committee, told reporters that meetings and other contacts between people on the Trump campaign and Russians might have been ill-advised at the time but did not add up to an worldwide conspiracy to throw the election.

That assessment, issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence last January, said with "high confidence" that President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government "developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump", and sought to help his election chances.

"We believe we've got the information necessary to answer those for the American people", he concluded.

As of Monday afternoon, Democrats were not informed that the committee had completed all of its interviews or meant to end its investigation.

Indeed, the top Democrat on the committee, Adam Schiff, commented that the decision to end the probe marked a "tragic milestone for this Congress".

Mueller is also investigating whether Trump has tried to obstruct the investigation, and is said to be discussing with White House lawyers whether the president himself will agree to be interviewed. "And history will judge its actions harshly". Democrats weren't interested in finding the truth and concluding the investigation.

Meanwhile, Trump's position during the campaign was no different than what former President Barack Obama's was, Nunes said. They said the committee had conducted 73 interviews, mostly behind closed doors, and collected more than 300,000 documents.

The intelligence committee has been deeply riven from the beginning. "Yes, they had cyber attacks, but we could find no evidence of collusion between either campaign and the Russians." .

"We found no evidence of collusion, and so we found perhaps some bad judgment, inappropriate meetings".

"But only [thriller authors] Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn or someone else like that could take this series of inadvertent contacts with each other, or meetings or whatever, and weave that into sort of a fiction page turner, spy thriller", Mr Conaway said.

The importance that this election holds for the SP and BSP can be understood by the fact that the two parties have joined hands to fight the polls together.

Representative Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican leading the Russian Federation investigation, said on Monday that the committee had concluded its interviews for the Russian Federation investigation, and the Republican staff had prepared a 150-page draft report that they would give to Democrats to review on Tuesday morning, CNN reported. "And that is I think a betrayal of the promise that was made that we would follow the facts wherever they lead". Important witnesses have not been interviewed, and records have not been subpoenaed, including bank documents and certain communications that Democrats say are paramount to understanding the case. Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski shares his thoughts on 'The Story'. The Democrats would have an opportunity to offer their input before the report is sent for declassification and ultimately public release, a process that could take at least a month, .

The investigation comes to a close nearly exactly year after it began.

U.S. Rep. Elise M. Stefanik, R-Willsboro, is a member of the House Intelligence Committee.

Unsurprisingly, the decision was welcomed by President Donald Trump, who tweeted the news in capital letters and has previously referred to the ongoing investigation as a "witch hunt". In his statement, Nunes thanked Gowdy, as well as Republican Reps.

Democrats later released their own 10-page memo rebutting the Republican allegations, saying the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department handled the warrant appropriately and the surveillance court was told there was political motivation behind the opposition research. They are likely to write their own final report as well, outlining questions that remain unanswered.

The House panel is releasing the report's findings Tuesday.

Some Democrats have signaled they would like to reopen the investigation under a Schiff chairmanship if the party wins control of the House in November's midterm elections.

Russian Federation believed Hillary Clinton would be president and it was trying to undermine her presidency, according to U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican who led the probe.

"It is truly disappointing that the House Intelligence Committee is just hanging up its cleats, having not really run the race", he told CNN.
