The selection of Meena, whose equations with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are known to have been strained, is seen as an initiative against perceived anti-incumbency. A senior BJP leader said in view of surplus votes of BJP and Shiv Sena, as well as support from Independent legislators, it should not be hard for BJP to secure the fourth seat.

Among the candidates from UP, prominent is Ashok Bajpai. Agarwal said his son, an SP legislator, would vote for the BJP.

Finance Minister Jaitley, a sitting member of the Upper House from Gujarat, was among the 11 BJP nominees who filed their papers from Uttar Pradesh.

Ajay Pratap Singh, who has contested the assembly elections in 2003 and 2008, and Kailash Soni will represent the party from Madhya Pradesh. It is already learnt to have won over four independents in the state assembly leaving it with just a few more votes needed for its 9th candidate. Yadav is also a BJP national general secretary.

BJP has named former CM of Maharashtra Narayan Rane and entrepreneur Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP general secretary Saroj Pandey and Anil Jain, party spokespersons Anil Baluni and GVL Narasimha Rao as the candidates for Rajya Sabha polls.

Asked if he saw any prospects of his entry into the Union Council of Ministers, Muraleedharan denied such a possibility.

Opposition-backed Sanjrani, Mandviwalla take top Senate posts
This is actually the Victory of People of Balochistan & Credit goes to Imran Khan & all the Parties who Supported Him. Bizenjo was accompanied by a delegation of independent senators-elect from Balochistan.

Rest two candidates filed their nomination papers as Independent.

Here too the arithmetic favours Congress, with the party hoping for support from seven rebel JDS MLAs, who are expected to join the party after the Rajya Sabha polls.

The maximum number of candidates fielded by the Congress party are in Karnataka, with 3 nominations, namely Dalit poet L. Hanumanthaiah, Vokkalinga leader G.C. Chandrasekhar and Syed Naseer Hussain. "This might split the votes of Congress MLAs".

Senior lawyer and Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singvi filed his nomination from West Bengal with the support of the state's ruling TMC. However, with no choice left, the JD (S) now makes a plan forward, to get ahead with the political game.

However, state Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki said both Yagnik and Rathwa would win their seats. Stalwarts like former union minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Milind Deora and Rajiv Shukla were in race.

A former minister of state for railways at the Centre, Rathwa had lost Lok Sabha election in 2014.
