Christine Quinn Says 'Unqualified Lesbian' Cynthia Nixon Shouldn't Challenge Cuomo

Nixon, considered a progressive Democrat, plans to challenge Governor Cuomo in a primary.

She lauded the stars's accomplishments as an entertainer and activist, but maintained that she lacks experience to be governor.

Cynthia Nixon's first campaign event as a candidate for governor of NY, where she planned to criticize incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo's handling of the subway and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), got off to a late start when she was delayed by stalled subways. Being an actress and celebrity doesn't make you qualified for public office.

"To be clear, Cynthia Nixon's identity has no bearing on her candidacy and it was not my intention to suggest it did", she tweeted. "But... being an actress and celebrity doesn't make you qualified for public office".

"If Washington is a swamp, Albany is a cesspool", she said.

Quinn, who is also gay, added: "Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City. Participating in rallies is important", Quinn said.

Nixon isn't the only person complaining about corruption in New York's state capital. "On health care, ending massive incarceration, fixing our broken subway", Nixon said in a video announcing her candidacy. According to the New York Daily News, she even helped spearhead an ad that included Nixon's Sex and the City co-star Chris Noth.

In tit-for-tat move Russia expels 23 UK diplomats
The Russian statement said the government could take further measures if Britain takes any more "unfriendly" moves toward Russia. He was granted refuge in the UK after a high-profile spy exchange between the United States and Russian Federation in 2010.

The 51-year-old celebrity turned novice politician, running to become the first woman and first openly gay governor of NY, donned an aquamarine blue sheath dress and chose a multicultural church to outline her left-leaning brand of Democratic politics.

The former City Council speaker came closer to landing a clean punch in questioning how Nixon would be able to manage a complex state bureaucracy when "she's never run an organization".

Nixon, who is married to a woman and has publicly identified as bisexual, endorsed one of Quinn's mayoral opponents, Bill DeBlasio, in the 2013 Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. "This is a time to move away from celebrity and toward progressive leadership".

Nixon also brushed off Quinn's interview with The Post.

"It's a flight of fancy on her part", she said, before revealing that her issue with the actress - an Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award-winner most famous for her role as Miranda Hobbes - had a personal element.

Quinn later took to Twitter to clear up the comments.
