It looks as though 13 Reasons Why could be as hard-hitting as ever when it returns for its second series on Netflix. On Wednesday, important statistics from the study of more than 5,000 teens and parents in five countries were released, as well as a statement from Brian Wright, vice president of Netflix's original series. And now, for Season 2, the show will directly respond to the complaints that it glamorizes teenage suicide.

13 Reasons Why centers around a teenage boy Clay, played by Dylan Minnette, who uncovers why his crush, Hannah (Katherine Langford), made a decision to commit suicide through 13 cassette tapes she left behind.

Following her death Hannah posthumously sends out 13 tapes, the contents of which contain the 13 reasons why she killed herself, which are nearly all fellow students.

According to a study commissioned by Netflix with Northwestern University's Center on Media and Human Development, while the majority of parents found the lack of supporting resources an issue, the majority of teen and young adult participants said 13 Reasons Why helped them feel more comfortable processing the topics discussed. There will also be a new after show featuring the actors, experts, and educators. Those struggling with issues are urged to visit 13ReasonsWhy.info for resources, including suicide prevention and mental health links.

When Netflix's "13 Reasons Why" - a show centered around a teenager's suicide - premiered almost a year ago, it did more than just raise the eyebrows of a few concerned parents.

"By shedding a light on these hard topics, we hope our show can help start a conversation, but if you are struggling with these issues yourself, this series might not be right for you, or you may want to watch it with a trusted adult", the new message at the start of the program, recited by the series' starring actors, states.

There is no scheduled release date for 13 Reasons Why season 2, but this move may suggest that an announcement is imminent.
