Memorial High School student Violet Kilmurray and three of her classmates will participate in today's March for Our Lives demonstration in Madison, determined to lend their voices to that of a youth movement across the US demanding stricter gun control laws. "Now there is no way I am not going to march".

Before the doors opened, 17-year-old Sarah Brown, a high school student from Fort Myers, Florida, recruited attendees to pick up pieces of sidewalk chalk and help her write the names of victims of gun violence on the sidewalks leading up to the Cathedral.

Driver-Moultrie said it was her understanding that police would be on hand for security from the beginning of the march at 4:30 until the event concludes at around 6 p.m.

The massive rallies aim to break a legislative gridlock that has long stymied efforts to increase restrictions on firearms sales in a nation where mass shootings like the one on February 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have become frighteningly common.

Across the country, more than 800 marches have been scheduled for Saturday.

Gooze asked lawmakers to ban bump stocks, which allowed Stephen Paddock to shoot 1,100 rounds into the crowd of Las Vegas concertgoers, killing 58 people and injuring more than 500 others.

WeTransfer has unveiled four projects from creatives that address gun violence in different mediums.

"It feels meaningful to know that we will be part of change", Whitacre said.

Participants hold up signs as students and gun control advocates hold the "March for Our Lives" event demanding gun control after recent school shootings at a rally in Washington, U.S., March 24, 2018.

"I want politicians to step up", and work to reduce gun violence, she said. They've finally gotten to the point they realize they're the generation that can make a change. "That we provide after school programs for our children and opportunities for enrichment of our young people", Marsha Gadsden, Director of Brooklyn Ascend Middle School, said.

"If nothing changes, we're going to continue to have school shootings", she said. That's up from 61 percent who said the same in October 2016 and 55 percent when the AP first asked the question in October 2013. "I understand the Second Amendment is important".

But even with claims of historic social momentum on the issue of gun control, the AP poll also found that almost half of Americans do not expect elected officials to take action. The route also takes marches by the Trump International Hotel.

Participation in USA elections by young voters is often low.
