Facebook Puts Permanent End to Select Partnerships with Third-Party Data Providers

Facebook falls 6 percent amid US investigation

Facebook has been receiving criticism for not making their privacy settings clear, and allowing user data to be accessed and given to third party sources like Cambridge Analytica.

Facebook is making some (largely cosmetic) changes to its privacy settings in an effort to provide users with more control over their personal information.

The social network is in damage control after revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a data firm with ties to President Donald Trump's campaign, reportedly accessed information from about 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.

The ministry has asked social media major to submit a reply whether the company or its related or downstream agencies utilising Facebook's data have previously been engaged by any entities "to manipulate the Indian electoral process".

The ultimate aim of the overhaul is to "maintain the trust people place in Facebook when they share information", said Facebook's vice president of partnerships Ime Archibong in a blog post. Therefore, instead of having settings spread across almost 20 different screens, users can now access it all from a single place.

The change in the settings menu is earlier a user find many pages for menu and now the same menu is located on a single screen.

Facebook is facing a backlash due to the leak of users data to Cambridge Analytica.

In addition, users will also have control over the information that Facebook utilizes to serve them ads and download the data they have shared with Facebook including photos, contacts, and posts and move them to another service.

Family sitcom "Roseanne" returns tonight with hour-long premiere on ABC
Indeed, the first episode in the show's return , airing Tuesday night, addresses itself directly to the fallout from the election. It makes sense that Roseanne and Dan might be in moderately poor health and constantly annoyed by the cost of medications.

Facebook has been working on the changes in preparation for the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which were approved two years ago and take effect May 25.

Some consumers and brands have been deleting their accounts over concerns about how Facebook handles user data.

Some people might like such personalized ads, but others may find them intrusive or manipulative.

They can also use political references or other influences or also can download a preview or purchase them sometimes also. Cambridge Analytica then claimed to be able to build psychological profiles of those Facebook users and claimed that it could help politicians to target them individually with tailored messages.

Partner categories were what allowed advertisements to use third-party data providers that targeted a specific audience directly on Facebook.

As a part of their massive cleanup, Facebook has made another announcement about ending their Partner Categories advertising program where it works with third-party data brokers for ad-targeting. But the update does not change Facebook's policies on collecting data about users, for now.

This modification of its vulnerability disclosure framework (VDF) is just one of the modifications Facebook is introducing after reports of data misuse on the platform made national headlines.

"I started Facebook, and at the end of the day I'm responsible for what happens on our platform".
