When the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School returned to campus after the March for Our Lives and their week-long spring break, they were less than thrilled with having to wear transparent backpacks.

The student leaders of Marjory Stoneman Douglas have been demanding change - namely, tighter gun laws - since their classmates and mentors were slaughtered at school on February 14.

As of Monday, students are also required to carry mandatory clear backpacks meant to deter anyone from bringing weapons to school.

"Students of color, black and brown students, like myself have been racially profiled while we are on heightened alert, fearing the emergence of another Caucasian shooter", Koerber said. "My school was a place where everyone felt comfortable, it was a home away from home, and now that home has been destroyed", he said. He continued that students' price tag protest is meant to, "demonstrate the fact that we stand together on all issues, and that we, as a student body, refuse to be reduced to nothing more than dollars and cents".

"We will need to use the first few days to issue backpacks and organize around the new procedures", Superintendent Robert Runcie said.

Cruz, 19, a former Stoneman Douglas student, entered campus through an open gate shortly before school ended for the day, carrying his AR-15 rifle in a bag.

Student Delaney Tarr, who was outspoken during the March For Our Lives event on March 24, also posted on Twitter about the backpacks.

"Starting off the last quarter of senior year right, with a good ol' violation of privacy!" she said in another tweet.

Marijuana is Battling the Opioid Crisis
Overdose deaths rose 21.5 percent in 2016, a much sharper spike than the 11.4 percent increase seen the previous year. Both studies were released Monday by the journal JAMA Internal Medicine .

An Instagram account was also created dedicated to students angry over the backpacks.

"Just implement a system that works".

Another student tweeted a photo of her clear backpack that had nothing but a handwritten note inside which read: 'This bag contains everything politicians care about, besides money'.

Thompson said someone sent an email warning of a threat to the campus.

She then chanted with the crowd, "Shame on you" and "We call BS".

"I have to say too, Lou, as an educator, there's a couple of these kids that are just rude in the way that they proceed here, as if they are bulletproof, so to speak", he said.

Rather than feeling safer, students have taken to social media to mock the beefed-up security.
