Salman Khan was first sentenced to one-year imprisonment on 17 February, 2006 under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act for killing two Chinkara (Indian gazelle), Rajasthan's state animal, at Bhawad village near Jodhpur on the night of 26-27 September, 1998.

On Thursday evening, Salman Khan was taken to Jodhpur Central Jail after he was found guilty of poaching endangered blackbuck in Rajasthan while filming Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998.

The district and sessions court here heard arguments on the suspension of sentence and bail application before deferring the matter till Saturday. "The actor will have to spend another night in jail", a lawyer said.

The moment people came to know that Khan has been convicted and the other accused have been acquitted, there was celebration as well as sadness.

Later, actor Preity Zinta, who has acted with him in several films, also visited him in jail.

The actor insists he is innocent.

Salman's counsel Mahesh Bora alleged that he received calls and messages threatening him to not appear for the bail hearing, reported ANI. "We will now work to get the government challenge the acquittal of others", said Ramniwas, a member of the Bishnoi community.

Jodhpur-Bollywood actor Salman Khan will spend another night in a prison here after a court on Friday made a decision to reserve its order on his bail plea until Saturday.

Both the Khans are among the top 10 most highly paid actors in the world.

Mumbai resident Naseem Khan told ABP News that he had contacted Being Human Foundation on Wednesday, a day before, Salman was convicted, for help as he urgently needed Rs 1.30 lakh for his mother's treatment.

In 1998, Khan spent a week in prison after being accused of using unlicensed arms to shoot the black bucks.
