The report also said Apple may be working on curved screens, which other phone makers including Samsung have incorporated into their designs.

However, if reports are to be believed, Apple may soon come out with a curved display phone that can be controlled without even touching the screen. Gurman indicated that the company is developing a new "touchless gesture control" and a curved screen for the future iPhone models. Devices upgraded to iOS 11.3 are returning a new response that does not match Apple's documented protocol.

If you're itching to touch your future iPhone less and admire its curved display, there's some bad news.

But every iPhone to date has used a visibly flat display. This could be a move by Cupertino giant to distinguish its products from those made by rivals.

Jack Nicklaus celebrates as grandson fires a Masters Par 3 ace
A tearful Nicklaus, who won 18 majors during his career, rated his grandson's ace the number one moment of his career. No further proof needed after watching his grandson, Gary, hit a hole-in-one during the Par 3 Tournament.

With the release of the original iPhone in 2007, Apple introduced the Apple fans to touch screens. Both the new gesture control and display technologies are still in the early research and development phases. According to sources close to the deal, Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology approved a PlayNitride application for a brand new $17-million USD (NT$500 million) manufacturing plant at Hsinchu Science Park. Even iPhone X's screen is slightly curved at the bottom, but it is nearly invisible to human eye. Given that the latter is still at least three years away from production, there is a strong chance that more OLED displays will end up in more iPhone models aside from the flagship. Unlike Samsung's technology that uses a sensor embedded in the top bezel, Apple is looking at integrating proximity sensing into displays.

Google is also working on technology using gestures through a program called Project Soli.

Sales of iPhone account for about two-thirds of Apple's total revenue, but it has been the continued growth of Apple Services that put Apple within striking distance of $1 trillion.
