More recently, Facebook is facing another backlash after it deleted messages sent by Zuckerberg from users' inboxes.

Facebook said it had suspended AggregateIQ pending further investigation. "These included limiting the retention period for Mark [Zuckerberg's] messages in Messenger. We did so in full compliance with our legal obligations to preserve messages".

Today's news could not come at a worse time for Facebook, as several users that have had conversations with Zuckerberg have seen messages and entire threads disappear.

At least 59,777 South African users were potentially impacted by the Facebook, Cambridge Analityica data breach.

Facebook's reputation took another hit this week, with the revelation that the company sent a doctor on a secret mission to top U.S. hospitals, to try and convince them to share private patient data.

Facebook Messenger now offers a Secret Conversation mode where users can set a timer on when messages will be destroyed. Those who manage large pages that do not clear the process will no longer be able to post, it said, adding that this will make it much harder for people to administer a page using a fake account. This is a one-day boycott of Facebook and its associated apps including Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Zuckerberg says Facebook has a number of plans to prevent something like this happening again. Facebook's subsidiary and instant messaging platform WhatsApp rolled out a similar feature called "Delete for everyone" in November 2017.

There has been no official announcement about the new delete feature, and there's a sense that Facebook is reacting to crisis after crisis in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal with slap-dash measures on an ad-hoc basis. And if we find developers that misused personally identifiable information, we will ban them and tell everyone affected by those apps. Facebook eventually admitted that 87 users may have had their privacy violated.

Are you looking forward to a feature for unsending Facebook messages? "Mark is really sorry for that, and what we're doing now is taking really firm action".
