Photo released by Iranian media reportedly show the T-4 air base in central Syria after a missile barrage Monday.

SANA news agency reported earlier in the day, citing its own correspondent that the Syrian T-4 airbase in the country's Homs province had been attacked by missiles.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a letter sent to the United Nations on Monday that Israel is "practicing state terrorism and threatens security and peace in the region and the world".

Syrian state news agency Sana first said the missile strike on the Tayfur base was a "suspected U.S. attack", but later withdrew all reference to America.

The two sides stressed the need for increasing coordination and consultations between Iran and Syria to face terrorism and its supporters and to confront the hostile provocations and threats by Israel, the USA, and their allies and pawns in the region.

On April 7, the Syrian army made advances against militants in the town of Douma, their last stronghold in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta. "Iran will consider launching an official retaliation for the attacks on its soldiers this time in order to deter Israel from continuing to strike Iranian forces in Syria".

US Threatens Military Action Against Syria; Russia Warns Of 'Grave' Consequences
SANA first said the missile strike on the Tayfur base was a "suspected USA attack", but later withdrew all reference to America. US government sources said Washington's assessment of the Saturday attack was that chemical weapons were used.

The US launched several dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian air base previous year after a chemical attack in the northern Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun killed dozens of people.

"The Syrian army's use of chemicals does not seem logical since it has the upper-hand in its war against armed terrorists", stressed Qassemi.

He also thanked Iran for its great support for the Syrian people. The alleged attack in the town of Douma occurred Saturday night amid a resumed offensive by Syrian government forces after the collapse of a truce.

"President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad".

According to the London-based war monitoring group, Syrians for Human Rights, most of the dead were members of the Iranian military or of groups backed by Iran. It has investigated more than 70 cases of alleged toxic gas attacks in Syria since 2014.

Russia's Foreign Ministry called the latest reports of a chemical attack a provocation.
