It was enough for Vinesh to become the first female wrestler in CWG 2018 to win the gold medal especially after Glasgow 2014 gold medallist and her cousin Babita Kumari Phogat settled for silver medal and Rio Olympics 2016 bronze medallist Sakshi Malik finished with bronze in the ongoing edition of Commonwealth Games. As if that was not enough, she remains undefeated in her weight category after defeating the likes of Australia's Rupinder Kaur and Nigeria's Miesinnei Genesis. Kiran won a bronze medal on day one. Malik was India's biggest gold medal hope in the women's section but two losses against against Adeniyi and Canada's Michelle Fazzari ended her hopes of finishing top of the podium. This is consecutive gold medal for Vinesh in Commonwealth Games after winning it four years ago in 48kg category in Glasgow.

The second Indian gold from the mat on Saturday was claimed by Sumit Malik in the men's freestyle 125 kg after his opponent Nigeria's Sinivie Boltic was ruled out of the final due to an injury.

First Alert Weather: Stormy Sunday
Cool temperatures in the beginning of the week will give way to a warming trend midweek through the end of the work week. As of now it looks like 1 to 3 inches will be possible, especially through northern Teller county, by Saturday morning.

Malik hails from Karor in Haryana's Rohtak district and had won a silver at both the Asian and Commonwealth championships past year.

The 24-year-old has followed up a string of fabulous performances, including gold medals in the Asian championships, Commonwealth championships and Asian Indoor Games and a silver in the World under-23 championships, last year by taking a bronze in the Asian championships in Bishkek and a 65kg gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games here. All these players take the gold medal count to 25.
