Supreme Court Website Down Minutes After Judge Loya Ruling

The bench had heard the case for weeks before reserving their verdict on 16 March.

The top court said the judicial process will be reduced to a "charade" if the courts are burdened with such cases with extraneous reasons.

He added that Judge Loya's death was even raised by the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court at a press conference.

Congress party was not a petitioner before the Supreme Court. "The court has slammed the petitioners who were demanding a SIT probe into the death of Judge Loya", he said. The Congress also raised questions over the apex court's verdict saying it was a "sad letter day" in the country's history and pitched for a fair probe into Loya's death.

The bench expressed the hope that the "Bar of the nation is resilient to withstand such attempts on the judiciary" and said that the judiciary must continue to perform its duty even if it is not to be palatable to some.

The issue of Loya's death had come under spotlight in November a year ago after media reports quoting his sister fuelled suspicion about the circumstances surrounding it and its link to the Sohrabuddin case.

This is consecutive gold medal for Vinesh in Commonwealth Games after winning it four years ago in 48kg category in Glasgow. All these players take the gold medal count to 25.

In the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, BJP President Amit Shah along with Rajasthan Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria, Rajasthan-based businessman Vimal Patni, former Gujarat police chief P C Pande, Additional Director General of Police Geeta Johri and Gujarat police officers Abhay Chudasama and N K Amin have already been discharged.

"For sometime, a few people were trying to politicise the judiciary. The CPI-M holds that the matter should be reviewed by a larger bench of the Supreme Court", it added. "Repeatedly, counsel for the petitioners and intervenors attempted to inform the court that they have no personal agenda and that they have instituted these proceedings to protect judicial independence", the judgment noted.

Judge Loya died on 1 December 2014 while attending a wedding with fellow judges in Nagpur.

Mr Surjewala said that Judge Loya's sister gave an interview, alleging that he was offered a bribe of Rs 100 crore along with a flat in Mumbai if he were to deliver a verdict in favour of the accused. "I urge Rahul Gandhi not to fight political battles through the corridors of the courts", Prasad said.

The state government had defended its probe, which established that Loya's death was natural, and categorically stated that a fresh probe will "unnecessarily bring the judiciary into disrepute".

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has also addressed the media after the court declared its judgment on the Judge Loya case. But to take a leap of reason, based on nothing else but political motive, and implicating BJP president Amit Shah as being behind Loya's "murder" is to leave the woodwork of the courts and enter the paperback of crime thrillers.
