With bankrupt parent company Bon-Ton Stores now owned by liquidators, the retail chain is conducting an "orderly wind-down" of its 250 stores around the country, a news release said Thursday. Court records show the liquidation sales must be completed by August 31st.

Liquidation was expected to begin as early as April 20, with a final closing date of August 31.

The company stated that it will reveal further details about the liquidation plans and going out of business at its stores, once the Bankruptcy Court approves the winning bid. Two firms were recently put at the head of the liquidation process for all locations.

Allegiant says 60 Minutes report 'irresponsible and misleading'
Canadian global affairs analyst and former aviation journalist Michael Bociurkiw said it's "absolutely shocking" that the U.S. We checked on that project with a Charlotte County spokesman who said Allegiant has not yet submitted a site plan for review.

All Bon-Ton credit cards will no longer be accepted as a form of payment in-store and online, and all accounts will be closed as of June 26.

The 160-year-old company has survived economic recessions and depressions, but like several other brick-and-mortar retailers in recent years it couldn't survive the shift toward e-commerce, led by Amazon.com Inc. Bon-Ton now has 250 stores, 38 of which are already in liquidation from a previously announced store closure process.

The Elder-Beerman store in Cannonsburg is expected to close within 10 to 12 weeks.
