No Criminal Charges In Prince's Death By Overdose

Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park studio compound on April 21, 2016. Thousands of people have shown up for live music, panel discussions and special presentations highlighting Prince.

Pills and other items were found in Prince's home, Paisley Park, after deputies responded to a call that he'd been found dead April 21, 2016.

Investigative files released as prosecutors closed their probe into Prince's death show that his closest confidants had grown increasingly anxious about his health in the days before he died — and that they tried to get him help.

Metz says there may be speculation on how Prince got the pills, but he can not say conclusively that any individual enabled that.

While Carver County said it was ending its role in the case, the U.S. Attorney's Office had no immediate comment on the status of its investigation. Carver County Attorney Mike Metz says evidence suggests no one around Prince knew he was taking a fentanyl-laced substance. "The counterfeit pills contain the potentially deadly opioid, fentanyl".

On Thursday, prosecutors also announced Schulenberg, the Minnesota doctor who'd prescribed an opioid painkiller for Prince a week before his death, had agreed to pay $30,000 to settle civil charges that he wrote an illegal prescription.

Schulenberg had examined Prince in the weeks before his death and illegally prescribed the star 15 Percocet pills in the name of his manager, Kirk Johnson, in order to protect the star's privacy, officials said.
