Larry's Look: Spring showers mark start of thunderstorm season

Over 25 million Americans in the central USA are at risk for severe weather over the next three days and some of this severe weather could be significant. After 6pm and into the evening and overnight the area of storms will move east and mainly affect the far northern tiered counties of Kansas but certainly isolated storms are possible elsewhere in an isolated nature.

Meanwhile, confidence is increasing for severe weather across most of eastern Kansas, including the KVOE listening area, for Wednesday.

A wide swath of central Kansas including Barton County has been placed into a tornado watch by the NWS Storm Prediction Center at 2:45 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday. While damaging winds and large hail are the main threat, tornadoes remain possible.

As storms continue into Wednesday night, we'll have to see how long the storms linger into Thursday morning which will which will be a key factor in how widespread the severe storms will be when they redevelop in the afternoon/evening hours before a cold front moves through giving us a dry and sunny Friday. The potential for severe weather ramps up on Wednesday over much of Oklahoma and Kansas. The biggest threat with today's storms will be damaging winds and hail and there is a slight chance for a few tornadoes.

Minneapolis reached 80 degrees on Monday, the first time since September. This has the potential to be the warmest air mass this region has seen since September of previous year. After weeks of dealing with cool weather, temperatures in the Northeast won't even drop below the typical afternoon average by the end of the week. This will be the start of several warm days for the Northeast, with plenty of sunshine.
