Amber Rudd resigned from her post as Britain's Home Secretary following accusations that she lied to Parliament last week about deportation targets for illegal immigrants.

Mrs Rudd handed in her resignation from the role of Home Secretary, on Sunday, after coming under fire over for the Government's handling of the Windrush scandal, where some migrants from Commonwealth countries, who settled in the United Kingdom, and their relatives had been declared illegal immigrants.

Asked if she should take some personal responsibility for 52-year-old Rudd's resignation, May said today: "When I was home secretary, yes, there were targets in terms of removing people from the country who were here illegally".

After looking like she might survive the crisis, Rudd has been forced to resign over comments made to the home affairs select committee last Wednesday.

Rudd and May both apologized repeatedly, saying that all pre-1973 Commonwealth immigrants who don't already have British citizenship will get it and those affected will get compensation. "Sajid Javid MP as secretary of state for the home department", a Downing Street statement said.

"People who have entered the United Kingdom illegally or overstayed here should expect to face the full force of the law and know that they will be removed if they will not leave this country voluntarily".

"I was really concerned when I first started hearing and reading about some of the issues".

They and many subsequent Commonwealth immigrants had an automatic right to settle in the U.K. But some have now been denied housing, jobs or medical treatment because of requirements that employers and doctors check people's immigration status.

The leap in support comes after rapper Kanye West announced that he supported President Trump and conservative ideology. This is not the first time there was an uproar on Twitter when a black man showed signs of being mentally unstable.

May has apologised for the treatment of the Windrush generation, but she had two big reasons for hoping Rudd could survive the scandal.

The furor has grown since The Guardian reported that some people who came to the United Kingdom from the Caribbean in the decades after World War II had recently been refused medical care in Britain or threatened with deportation because they could not produce paperwork proving their right to reside in the country. "I don't like the phrase "hostile'".

In a resignation letter to the prime minister, Rudd said she had "inadvertently" misled lawmakers.

Gove and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who were at the forefront of the campaign for Britain to leave the European Union, praised Rudd following her resignation.

The prime minister's critics note that it was May - not Rudd - who was responsible for the changes in immigration rules that led to doctors, landlords and employers checking people's immigration status.

Rudd was the fifth person to quit the cabinet since the June 2017 snap general election, called by May but which cost the Conservatives their majority in parliament.

Under a toughening immigration regime brought in in recent years, and bureaucratic mess-ups that resulted in documentation being lost by the government, many of these men and women have begun to be penalised for failing to have the right documentation and were being treated as illegal immigrants.
