The Sensex succumbed to profit-booking by investors ahead of Karnataka elections this week, with the gauge sinking to the day's low of 35,136. Financial stocks are the top gainers, with Bank Nifty gaining a percent, while Nifty PSU bank index up over 1.5%. It touched a low of 10,689 intra-day.

AFC Asian Cup: India clubbed with Thailand, Bahrain, hosts UAE
Chhetri was part of the national team in the 2011 Doha Asian Cup, the last time India played in the continental championship. The top 24 teams from all over Asia, including hosts UAE were drawn into six groups of four teams each.

Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares worth Rs 1,037.23 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold equities worth Rs 635.24 crore on Monday, provisional data showed.

Meanwhile, Asian markets ended mixed despite a strong closing on Wall Street as investors digested last week's trade talks between the U.S. and China, while United States jobs data eased fears of faster rate hike by the Federal Reserve. Losers included, Lupin, Dr Reddy, TCS, Coal India, Cipla, SunPharma, Tech Mahindra and HDFC Bank.

Investors fear that a rate hike in the USA could set off capital outflows from emerging market economies like India amid rising crude and falling rupee could affect the market sentiment.

Besides, investors were concerned over a further rise in global crude oil prices as a result of U.S. moving away from the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal.
