John Higgins says he has gained more respect for legendary Crucible almost man Jimmy White following his World Snooker Championship final defeat to Mark Williams.

'Last time I won I had a glass of milk and went to bed but I'm going to party the night away this time'.

He said: "As long as Barry Hearn isn't going to fine me or discipline me I'll have to do it", before Williams walked into his press conference undressed apart from a towel.

"To be honest, a little bit uncomfortable at the minute", replied Williams to a journalist who asked how it felt to win his first World Championship in 15 years.

It was a tense encounter that included a monumental seven frame comeback from his opponent John Higgins, before Williams eventually came out on top 18-16 at Sheffield's Crucible.

Williams held his nerve and landed a title that he himself saw as a massive ask only past year, when he told reporters that he would strip off in the press conference should he win the trophy. He insists he contemplated retirement last summer, having not won a ranking title for six years. Previous year he did not even qualify for the finals.

Williams didn't even make it to the Crucible previous year having dropped out of the top 16 and lost in the qualifying rounds.

Conte: In spite of a hard season we are still alive
When speaking to the Telegraph , the centre-back revealed that he is still eager to win more despite the few that doubt his status at Chelsea .

"I made a really good break under pressure".

'If I'd lost I'd have been sick after having the pink to win, ' said Williams. Twelve months ago I was thinking about chucking it and here I am as the 2018 world champion, bollock naked!

He led 10-7 overnight and soon stretched that to 14-7, Higgins potting just 31 points over the four frames. I just did something I thought I would never ever do. He also was then obliged to fulfill an earlier promise to the media to hold his post-final press conference naked if he won.

Showing nerves of steel Higgins nicked the frame with a break of 82.

"What an occasion. To play John in the Crucible in the final is an unbelievable occasion and I'm so glad I won". My missus couldn't stop crying for ages, I got a little bit emotional towards the end as well.

"I was 14-7 behind and I just wanted to take it to a final
session - I didn't want to lose with a session to spare".
