Tesla bursts into flames after fatal crash in Switzerland

Inevitably, Tesla's Model 3 output will be the most closely viewed item once the company posts its earnings report for the June quarter in about six weeks. While Tesla's Autopilot feature indicates that a driver must be attentive at all times, the driver admitted that she was looking at her phone prior to the collision.

Autopilot self-driving capabilities of the Tesla were not expected to be involved, the NTSB said.

Despite an earlier stated target of producing 5,000 Model 3 cars per week, the company was producing a little over 2,000 units per week by mid-April, which led to serious questions on the project's viability.

Cantonal police in Ticino are not commenting on the fatal accident which is one of three incidents involving Tesla cars in recent days.

The incident involving the Tesla Model S occurred on May 11 in South Jordan, Utah, when an unidentified 28-year-old female ran a red light and crashed into the back of another vehicle at 60 miles per hour.

Autopilot, a form of advanced cruise control, handles some driving tasks and warns those behind the wheel they are always responsible for the vehicle's safe operation, Tesla has said.

President Trump just saved embattled Chinese phone maker ZTE
Analysts are watching to see if Trump's conciliatory stance will help ease the tensions over trade between the U.S. and China. Trump's willingness to aid ZTE in preserving Chinese jobs comes despite his condemnations of China on the campaign trail.

But unlike Autopilot, Super Cruise uses sensors to track where the driver's eyes are looking, and will give audible and visual alerts if it detects that the driver isn't paying attention.

The investigation into the crash in Utah is ongoing, police said.

"What's actually unbelievable about this accident is that a Model S hit a fire truck at 60mph and the driver only broke an ankle". Police believe speed played a role and that the autopilot function was likely not switched on at the time of the accident.

After a rough start to the week - Tesla shares closed down 3 per cent Monday after Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk announced a "thorough reorganization" - Jonas' latest call is further weighing on the stock Tuesday, with shares down as much as 3.9 per cent in morning trading.

In one of those accidents, a woman in Utah broke her foot after she slammed into a truck when her auto allegedly ran a red light while it was in autopilot mode.

The NTSB is also investigating a Tesla Model S crash in Florida that left two people dead and another injured.
