Sichuan Airlines Co-Pilot Sucked Halfway Out Of Broken Windshield

Hero pilot lands safely a plane with broken cockpit window

A Chinese passenger jet of the China Sichuan Airlines cruising mid-air at a height of 32,000ft (9,753m) was forced into an emergency landing after its windscreen blew out, sucking the co-pilot halfway out of the plane, media reported on Tuesday.

Liu later said the accident reminded him of a similar incident with British Airways in 1990, when a windshield separated from its frame, and the captain was sucked out of the plane.

The captain told, "There was no warning sign".

A Chinese pilot was almost sucked out of a plane with 119 passengers aboard when one of the cockpit windows fell out mid-flight.

It may have started off as a smooth flight but after the co-pilot was partially sucked out of the cockpit window at 30,000 feet above the ground, it didn't end up as one.

"Everything in the cockpit was floating in the air", the captain said, according to the BBC.

It was no easy task bringing the plane in for an emergency landing as it was "jolting strongly", making the aircraft hard to control.

"The crew members are in good condition and after full rest, they will continue to perform the sacred duty of safe flight", the airline said.

Haspel - who would replace now-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the role - has gotten support from lawmakers on the left. Haspel's letter was first reported by CNN .

The safety director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China said at a media conference that the plane "shed its right windshield" as it was flying over Chengdu.

After landing, most passengers were transferred to another flight to Lhasa, but 29 passengers were sent to the hospital, one with a sprain and another with bruising, China Central TV reported.

"When I looked at the other side, the co-pilot was partially blown out of the aircraft".

Mrs Riordan, a banking executive, was pulled back into the aircraft by other passengers, who attempted to resuscitate her, but she later died of her injuries.

Liu Chuanjian braved the intense cold and blasting wind to slow the flight, Sichuan Airlines 3U8633, from its original speed of about 500-560 miles per hour to land in about 20 minutes.

But a string of recent inflight incidents involving broken windows have caused alarm among many travelers, to the point where at least one consumer survey shows that a few fliers are even avoiding window seat assignments.

Freezing air also blasted through the cockpit's open windshield panel. China said that the way pilot Liu Chuanzhi made the plane successfully landing in the twenty minutes at 800-900 kilometers per hour, it was extremely hard.

Responding to a request for comment, the FAA said based on its own data, "passenger window failures are rare". A week later, another Southwest flight made an emergency stop when a window broke in the cabin.
