Microsoft reportedly buys code-sharing site GitHub

The two companies have explored a potential deal over the years; at one point last year, a $5 billion deal for GitHub was floated, multiple people told Business Insider.

It's unclear what the price tag of such a deal may be, though GitHub was most recently valued at $2 billion when it raised its last round of funding in 2015. Are you going to keep using GitHub and move over to GitLab? Co-founder Chris Wanstrath left the company back in August, and Chief Business Officer Julio Avalos has been in charge of day-to-day matters in the interim. Github gave smaller, growing companies a way to implement some of the best practices in place at tech conglomerates while finding and contributing to the open-source projects that changed the way software was developed.

Trump’s growing trade war could hit Bay State hard
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the European Union would respond in a "firm and united" manner to the tariffs . Now that the U.S.'s three key allies are subject to the tariffs , they are looking at what to do next.

It's worth noting that Microsoft's journey started with creating software development tools and the company is known to lure developers from time-to-time to boost its software business. Many corporations, including Microsoft and Alphabet Inc.'s Google, use GitHub to store their corporate code and to collaborate. As part of its evolving stance on interoperability with the outside world, Microsoft first embraced GitHub years ago and it now offers deep integration with the service via its Visual Studio tools.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has been looking towards more open source solutions. While those talks may have died down, the possible inclusion of Ramaswamy to the company's board may curb Microsoft's prospects for a buyout. GitHub can be termed as the gold mine of talent, data, and resources. As news of the pending deal broke on Sunday, developer Twitter was full of worries about one of the biggest companies on the planet - a software giant that was once prosecuted by the government for abusing its power - controlling the biggest repository of software on the planet. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had called open source "Cancer" in 2001. It's also a social network of sorts for developers.
