Rafael Nadal vs Diego Schwartzman, French Open 2018

It was the first set Nadal had lost in his last 38, stretching over three French Open campaigns - meaning Bjorn Borg's record of 41 straight sets won remained intact.

Top seed Nadal, 32, trailed 6-4 3-5 when play was halted on Wednesday.

Whoever reaches the final from that side of the draw will face either Austrian seventh seed Dominic Thiem or unseeded Italian Marco Cecchinato in Sunday's final.

She's there opposite No. 1-ranked Simona Halep and Halep's continuing strain to win a grand slam after losing three grand slam finals, all in the (very) full three sets.

Then Schwartzman served for the set which, with Nadal on the other side, just could not possibly prove formulaic.

Nadal will next play 11th-seeded Diego Schwartzman, who rallied to beat Kevin Anderson 1-6, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (0), 6-2.

Play at the French Open has been called off for the day because of rain.

On Thursday, it was rarely used as effectively. As the game was stopped for two minutes, Schwartzman walked back to his mark, amidst a huge cheer from the crowd, and took a set off the King.

Though Nadal hit back to level for 2-2, the plucky Argentinian broke again with a thumping forehand to regain control.

That game had a 40-15 lead for Schwartzman, a brilliant Nadal drop volley that rubbed out the second set point, a Nadal break point, a attractive duo of Schwartzman overheads for a third set point and, just then, after a first-serve fault, a spectator in the 15th row apparently fainting.

The freedom with which Schwartzman had played in the first set had disappeared, errors which had been rare becoming increasingly regular. Schwartzman saved a break point in the last game and he looked pumped and motivated to earn his career-best win, breaking twice in a row in set number two as well.
