Stop Separating Migrant Children From Parents — UN to US

UN calls on Trump to ‘immediately halt’ policy on separating migrant families at border

"The US should immediately halt this practice of separating families and stop criminalising what should, at most, be an administrative offence that of irregular entry or stay in the US", UN human rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told a briefing in Geneva.

"The child's best interest should always come first, including over migration management objectives or other administrative concerns", she said.

Border agents have been placing children who crossed the U.S. -Mexico border illegally in holding stations.

"It is therefore of great concern that in the United States, migration control appears to have been prioritized over the effective care and protection of migrant children". "Started the Wall", Mr. Trump tweeted Tuesday.

Under that policy, parents must be separated from children, and the children are handed over to a separate agency where they are then supposed to be placed in the charge of other United States guardians.

"Border security laws should be changed but the Dem (ocrat) s cant get their act together".

HHS is responsible for finding shelter for migrant children, as well as matching them with relatives or foster parents in the country, but it takes 45 days on average to find a sponsor for a child, according to a spokesperson for the department's Administration for Children and Families, which cares for 11,200 unaccompanied children.

NBA Finals 2018: Stephen Curry breaks 3-point record
No team in National Basketball Association history has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit to win any best-of-seven series. LeBron James kept Cleveland close despite Golden State's torrid shooting with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.

In April, Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave direction for all instances of illegal border crossings to be prosecuted.

The rights office said children should never be detained for reasons related to their own or their parents' migration status.

Shamdasani also noted that the U.S.is the only country in the world that has thus far failed to ratify the United Nations convention on the rights of the child.

The UN says the policy is "arbitrary and unlawful interference in family life" and "a serious violation of the rights of the child".

So while separating families might not have been the administration's intention, it is an obvious effect of the policy.

Around 550 children are now in custody at the USA border and almost 300 of them have spent more than 72 hours there, the time limit for immigrants to be kept in these temporary holdings, according to a report by NBC News. It has also said that some adults falsely claim to be the parents of accompanying children, a genuine problem, and that it has to sort out their claims.
