But afterward, Ms. McCain publicly questioned why Sadler still had a job at the White House.

Finally, on Tuesday evening, deputy press secretary Raj Shah confirmed Sadler "is no longer employed" at the White House.

The White House became even more fixated on leaks after the McCain comment got out, and Sadler's exit is reportedly the first step of a planned restructuring of Trump's communications team, which will involve many firings.

McCain, 81, was diagnosed in July with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Updated 7:25pm: Post was updated to include a statement from the White House. "It's being addressed internally and I don't have anything further to add".

After last month's reports over the comment, Sadler called the senator's daughter, Meghan McCain, to apologise, according to the Hill newspaper.

The good news on that front is that they have a pair of All-Stars coming back next season that missed the playoffs due to injury. I always leave everything on the court, every game.

Meghan McCain told viewers she had yet to receive an apology.

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday morning indicated that Sadler may qualify for other jobs in the White House. "I did not receive that".

Reviews in regards to the remark sparked a torrent of criticism and a White Home public response that targeted on those that leaked the feedback and resisted apologizing or addressing the content material of Sadler's comment.

Trump gathered a small group of communications staffers in the Oval Office, including Sadler, and reportedly asked her who she thought was leaking to journalists. This angered Schlapp, who is married to Matt Schlapp, head of the American Conservative Union.

Speaking about the efforts to seek out leakers, Sanders said, "I think it is disgusting and some of the most shameful behavior that you can ever engage in".

Conway would not say if such comments were disqualifying for working in the administration. "And they should be fired".
