Trump Kim launch historic Singapore summit with a handshake

Asked about denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Trump said: "We are starting that process very, very, very quickly, absolutely".

After shaking hands, meeting one-on-one and in a group, and a working lunch with vanilla ice cream, the two leaders signed a document this afternoon asserting that Washington would provide "security guarantees" to Pyongyang in exchange for the rogue regime's "unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula".

Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity that he believes Kim will begin to work toward dismantling North Korea's nuclear program "virtually immediately". Earlier today, when the contents of the documents remained maddeningly vague, Kim assured reporters that "the world will see a major change".

Staying in the hotel wing adjacent to the United States president, Mr Mohan had been sitting at the hotel lobby since 6:30 AM today to track the Donald Trump's movements.

Former U.S. National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman arrived in Singapore late on Monday for a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying he was "excited to be part of it".

Trump also said he wanted to withdraw the USA troops stationed in the South, something he promised on the campaign trail, saying: "I'd like to be able to bring them back home".

President Donald Trump said he trusts Kim Jong Un and that he has received the same trust in return following a historic sit-down with the North Korean leader.

"United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula".

In a separate interview with ABC News, he said the North Korean people have a "great fervor" for Kim - something North Koreans often have to show or face punishment.

As the two flags hung side-by-side in the backdrop for the first time ever, both Kim and Trump expressed hope that their summit would be fruitful.

"Kim will be remembered as the leader who ushered in a glorious new era of security and prosperity for his people", he said. There was no proof, though, that this suspension were permanent rather than a simple freezing of activity while Kim negotiated with other countries like South Korea and the U.S. "But we'll be saving a tremendous amount of money, plus I think it's very provocative", Mr Trump said.

"I hated to do it, sometimes I felt foolish doing it, but we had no choice", Trump said.
