Second deputy dies in shooting in Kansas

Rohrer, 35, and King, 44, were both shot about 11:15 a.m. Friday while transporting two inmates from a court hearing in downtown Kansas City, Kan., back to the jail just across the street.

Fox News reports that a second Kansas City, KS police office has died after being shot Friday by a prisoner during inmate transportation.

The deputies were shot on Friday after a suspect overpowered at least one of them and perhaps took a weapon, said Major Kelli Bailiff of the Wyandotte Sheriff's Department said during a press conference.

Earlier Friday Deputy Patrick Rohrer died shortly after the shooting at KU Med from his injuries, authorities said. Police say she died just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Bailiff said a credit union fund will be set up soon for people to donate to help the families of the slain deputies, and that information will be provided publicly later.

"This is a courthouse building, there is video". He also is facing charges in the first-degree murder of a 55-year-old woman on December 26, 2017, in Kansas City, Mo.

Bailiff said investigators do not believe the public is in any danger.

A spokesman for Wyandotte County, Edwin Birch, previously told CNN the shooting occurred inside the court services building, and that a juvenile had also been shot.
