Kane's hat-trick took his tally to five goals at the World Cup, which in itself is another England record - no other England player had previously scored more than three at a World Cup group stage - and the striker is now the clear favourite at [3.3] to be the Top Tournament Goal Scorer. Brazil would meet Germany in the round of 16, and then potentially play the winners of Group G in the quarterfinals. Panama did get a consolation goal though, their first ever at a World Cup. Manager Gareth Southgate has said England will not play for second place in Group G, even though it would nearly certainly put them in the easier half of the draw.

At 9pm (Thailand time) Group A leaders Russian Federation play Uruguay, while Saudi Arabia face Egypt.

A similar situation could arise in Group B too, as Spain and Portugal have identical records at the time of writing as well.

This is the first time that England have scored six goals in a World Cup game.

Kane - who now has five goals in two matches - scored two first-half penalties as Gareth Southgate's side ran riot in Nizhny Novgorod, earning a 5-0 half-time lead.

Stars of the entertainment world have reacted optimistically about England's World Cup chances after today's (June 24) victory over Panama. Our set plays were also a threat and that was pleasing to see.

Buoyed by their impressive performance and last minute victor against Tunisia on Monday the Three Lions produced a breathtaking first half display that saw John Stones score two headers, Harry Kane blast home a brace of penalties, and Jesse Lingard sore a stunning goal from outside of the area.

"We are just enjoying it", said Kane.

"It's a brilliant result, fantastic to be through and to do it in this way is brilliant".

And while they posses prodigious talent in their ranks, Martinez's men struggled to break down a resilient Panama for 50 minutes in their opening group match, as it required a Dries Mertens' masterclass to open proceedings early in the second-half.

Southgate even claimed he "didn't particularly like the performance" due to a sloppy start and conceding a late goal that leaves England level on goal difference with the Red Devils at the top of Group G.

England are now above Belgium in the table as they have two yellow cards (-2) to Belgium's three (-3).
