Trump is moving quickly to fill the vacancy that will be created when Justice Anthony M. Kennedy retires from the court July 31. Liberal pundits, comedians, media and more have reacted with utter horror at the idea that Kennedy would dare to step down at such a time as this. "And I'm going to try and do something like that, but I don't think I'm going to be so specific".

Trump told reporters Friday he would not ask potential nominees their views on abortion rights and Roe v. Wade.

Some progressives are so articulate in their expressions of hate, loss, and exasperation over Kennedy's retirement that they just couldn't help but blurt out their feelings.

President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump and their son Barron Trump, arrive at Morristown Municipal Airport, in Morristown, N.J., Friday, June 29, 2018. "As I said, I'm looking specifically at two women".

White House aides said other names are in the mix as well.

"This is a battle line that has been drawn that literally will put women's lives at risk, that undermines our civil rights, our human rights", Gillibrand said at a rally in Washington.

"He's an outstanding talent", he said. You know, usually, they don't say that. "I actually saw him on television last night, where he said he would love the job".

The organization has surprised everyone, I think it's given an incredible image of the Russian people, of Russia in general. We are in this stadium, which has been built for four games, no cutting corners or looking for a second-level job.

Steven Law, president of the Senate Leadership Fund, a campaign group aligned with McConnell, said the group is running digital ads in 10 states that Trump won in 2016 where Democratic senators are now up for re-election. Gorsuch cleared the Senate - only after McConnell pushed through a rules change to end the filibuster on Supreme Court nominees and lower the threshold for confirmation from 60 to a simple majority - with 54 votes.

In the run-up to selecting Gorsuch, Trump met with three contenders and White House officials vetted several more.

The Federalist Society is a nationwide organization of conservative lawyers who espouse conservative judicial philosophies. Trump welcomed Republicans Chuck Grassley, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Democrats Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly and Heidi Heitkamp as part of the effort.

One person on that list of names is Utah Sen. The current record for longest service on the Supreme Court is held by William O. Douglas, who served for 36 years from 1939 to 1975.

"Because Kennedy drifted right this term, he and Roberts shared the median spot", Epstein said.

In a tweet today, the president said he will be making his choice for supreme court justice on July 9th.
