Kim Jong Un Strokes Trump's Ego In Thank You Letter

Trump included the letter in a tweet Thursday, writing: "A very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea".

"I firmly believe that the strong will, honest efforts and unique approach of myself and Your Excellency Mr. President aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK and the US will surely come to fruition", Kim wrote, referring to North Korea by its acronym.

The North Korean leader affirmed his firm belief that "the strong will, honest efforts and unique approach" the two have "aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK and the US will surely come to fruition".

In the meeting at the Korean Peninsula's demilitarized zone, the two sides had been expected to discuss the return of US troops' remains from the 1950-53 Korean War - an arrangement that the State Department had announced after Secretary Michael R. Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang last weekend.

Kim made that commitment when he met Trump in Singapore last month.

The Pentagon says Pyongyang has indicated several times they have as many as 200 sets of remains that could be those of USA soldiers who died in the war.

Donald Trump just can't quit Kim Jong Un, despite North Korea calling denuclearization talks with the U.S.

He was referring the summit statement signed by the two leaders - the first-ever US-North Korean summit - in which Kim agreed in broad terms to "work toward denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula. The US did not say which countries were illicitly providing Pyongyang with the products.

Trump, on Thursday afternoon, tweeted out a letter he received from Kim Jong Un, along with a translated version. Although Pompeo called the meetings "productive", North Korea said the lack of emphasis on security guarantees was "regretful".

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo did not acknowledge a question about the no-show when reporters asked him in Brussels on Thursday.

North Korea proposed to reschedule the meeting for Sunday.

North Korean and United States teams, as well as United Nations officials, had been due to discuss the details of repatriation.

A planned meeting Thursday between North Korean and USA officials in the Demilitarized Zone between the two Koreas to discuss the return of the remains was postponed.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said North Korea has now offered to meet the delegation on Sunday. North Korea had also released the three American prisoners the government had been holding ahead of the summit.

Following the North Koreans' no-show at Thursday's meeting, the USA state department said the two delegations had agreed to meet on 15 July.
