Wimbledon 2018: Novak Djokovic back in semifinals

Novak Djokovic speaks out on narrowly escaping Wimbledon scheduling nightmare

Novak Djokovic speaks out on narrowly escaping Wimbledon scheduling nightmare

With Kevin Anderson taking nearly three and a half hours to tame French showman Gael Monfils in the previous match, Djokovic knew he had about two hours of daylight left if he wanted to avoid coming back on Tuesday's rest day to finish off the contest.

'But it is the way it is in the midst of emotions and tough matches it happens'.

Scheduled last on No. 1 Court, Djokovic and Khachanov did not get underway until after 19:00 local time at the All England Club on Monday.

Djokovic's last run to the final four at Wimbledon ended with him winning the tournament and he then went on to lift the 2015 US Open and 2016 Australian and French Open titles, becoming only the third man to hold all four Grand Slam trophies at the same time.

Simon, looking for his third Grand Slam quarter-final at the age of 33, secured the first break of the match to take a 4-3 lead in the second set when Del Potro netted a return.

The three-time Wimbledon champion was broken in the opening game of the fourth set, but won the next four games and broke again to clinch victory. "I think confidence is back for him". He hit 28 aces against Federer, saved nine of 12 break points and managed to hold his own in the rare lengthy baseline rallies.

Asked if he had expected to be switched to Centre, where matches can go on till 11pm under floodlights, the three-times Wimbledon champion said: "Of course, it's always an option". Early on he was bothered by the glare off the sun, adjusting his serve and then sporting a cap. That earned a code violation from chair umpire Carlos Ramos.

54 deaths in Quebec attributed to heat as hot, humid weather subsides
In 2010, around 100 people in the Montreal area died when extreme heat stifled the area. A record-breaking heat wave is smothering parts of central and eastern Canada.

Anderson added that Federer, who won his first Wimbledon title in 2003, is the ideal role model for the sport - and for those players in the chasing pack.

His frustrations doubled up after Nishikori did the same in the fourth set but didn't pick a violation, much to the dismay of Djokovic. Djokovic hails from Serbia and it seems the football bug is there in him.

Soon enough, Djokovic was on his way to the semifinals, where he will meet Nadal. I don't want to stop here. His latest foray into the final four of Wimbledon is just another addition to his now 32 Grand Slam semifinal appearances, now second on the list behind Roger Federer.

"I have worked very hard to try and get myself in the best possible shape for the biggest event and this is certainly one of the best".

"It took me two or three months and that was frustrating that I wasn't able to perform the game that I was used to and the level of tennis I wanted to play".

He'll have to get past Nadal first.
